Superior North EMS Designates Manitouwadge as Wilderness Training Area

On January 29 & 30, 2004, Manitouwadge became the designated site for Superior North EMS Wilderness Response Training. In making the decision, EMS Director Jocelyn Bourgoin who co-teaches the program reviewed many factors. "The excellent training centre at the Manitouwadge EMS station, the amount of snow, the local expertise, community support, and the fact Manitouwadge has operated the first and only EMS unit in Ontario since 1983 combined to produce an excellent training area" stated Bourgoin. A team of 10 paramedics from Thunder Bay, Marathon, and Manitouwadge joined forces to receive training in how to best handle off road responses in the winter. Upon their return to Thunder Bay, the newly certified medics activated their unit for the first time.
