Superior North EMS Names "Employer of the Year" by Confederation College

Confederation College has named Superior North EMS as it's "Employer of the Year" for 2005. This prestigious award is presented in "recognition of the time, support, and significant contribution made by an employer to the success of Confederation College students".

The relationship between Confederation College and Superior North EMS includes:

*  In the last school year, more than 60 paramedic students from Confederation College have been placed with our Thunder Bay paramedics to gain clinical experience in the field. Each clinical placement is almost 400 hours long. The Thunder Bay paramedics share their experiences and provide instruction to the students to enable them to consolidate their learning in a practical setting.

*  Superior North EMS worked with Philips International to facilitate the donation of six surplus cardiac monitors / defibrillators for use in the College program.

*  Confederation College relies heavily on our paramedics to deliver its paramedic program as part time faculty, with eight Thunder Bay paramedics fulfilling this role.

*  Four paramedics from both union and management sit on Confederation College's Paramedic Advisory Committee, providing advice and feedback to the College on the paramedic program.

*  Media students from Confederation College spent a few shifts with our paramedics filming a short documentary entitled "Lifesavers", which will be nominated for provincial and federal awards.

We at Superior North EMS consider the relationship between Confederation College and us to be important for the community and for the future of our organization. We are very pleased that our work has been acknowledged through this award.

Presentation was made on June 10, 2005 during convocation at the Community Auditorium.
