Three People Injured at Loch Lomand This Weekend

December 9, 2002 - Paramedics from Superior North EMS were required to respond to the Loch Lomond Ski Hill on three separate occasions this weekend. Three people were injured and required on scene treatment, and then transport to Thunder Bay Regional Hospital - McKellar site for further care.

On Saturday, a 16 yr old male suffered a fractured wrist after he fell while snowboarding. The injuries were not life-threatening.

On Sunday, two people were injured during a snowmobile racing event. The first, a 30 yr male participant of the race fell off of his machine, and then was possibly struck and driven over by another participant. This patient was treated for possible spinal injuries and other non life-threatening injuries prior to transport.

A second person, a 34 yr old male who was a spectator at the race, was struck by an airborne snowmobile travelling approximately 60 kph. The snowmobile struck the patient on his left upper body, resulting in non life-threatening injuries including a possibly dislocated left shoulder. This patient was also treated for possible spinal injuries prior to transport.
