Superior North EMS Paramedics Graduate From Advanced Training

City Hall Ceremony to Recognize Achievement of 6 Thunder Bay Paramedics

March 20, 2006 - City of Thunder Bay Mayor Lynne Peterson, Chief Administrative Officer Bob Petrie, and Superior North EMS Director Jocelyn Bourgoin will present certificates to 6 Thunder Bay Advanced Care Paramedics (ACPs) at a special ceremony at Thunder Bay City Hall today. The paramedics have now been certified as ACPs after completing a 7 month program delivered by Superior North EMS in conjunction with Sudbury's Cambrian College.

"The training will allow the paramedics to provide advanced care to our patients, including intubation, cardiac and narcotic drug therapy, intravenous therapy, and cardioversion" said Norm Gale, Manager of Quality Assurance and Training. "Further, this intensive 7 month program helps our experienced paramedics with other aspects of care such as critical thinking and advanced assessment skills", he added. The laboratory sessions were conducted with over $400,000 worth of advanced interactive equipment designed to provide realistic training scenarios.

The 6 new ACPs join 7 already certified in Thunder Bay to bring the complement up to 13. There are approximately 65 paramedics in the City of Thunder Bay.

Media persons may attend the ceremony to speak with the paramedics or City officials. The ceremony will be at 2 p.m., on Monday, 20 Mar in Council Chambers at City Hall.
