Aircraft Accident at Jellicoe

December 17, 2003 - Paramedics were called into action at Jellicoe on Wednesday after an aircraft accident.

Superior North Emergency Medical Services says a pilot suffered non-life-threatening injuries after an incident that left his aircraft partially submerged in a lake. Superior North EMS spokesperson Norm Gale says the aircraft was first found by a crew from Nakina Air Service. A 47 year old man was discovered to have non-life-threatening leg injuries, and suffering from hypothermia. He was extricated and flown to Geraldton for treatment by paramedics, prior to being transported to Geraldton Hospital.

Gale says paramedics from Beardmore, and Jellicoe Volunteer First Response Team members and firefighters, were also at the accident scene. They had to access the site by snowmobile.

The Jellicoe team is one of 17 volunteer First Response Units across the district. They are supported by Superior North EMS and have advanced First Aid and CPR training.
