November 15, 2011 – The Longlac EMS Station has re-opened after it was temporarily closed once the presence of mould was confirmed on May 9, 2011. For health and safety, this caused paramedics and the ambulance to be housed in an alternate location until the remediation could occur.
“Even though the mould contamination was considered minor, the process of the investigation to determine the extent of the mould and the repairs were extensive.” said EMS Superintendent Stephane Leblanc. “We conducted Mould Intrusive Testing first, then after receiving the recommendation Superior North EMS contracted two Greenstone contractors to carry out the repairs. Also, the installation an Air Exchanger was added to address any future re-occurrences of the mould. The total costs of the repairs and temporary relocation has impacted our Operational Budget by an estimated $27,000.00"
