Lappe First Response Team
The fire team in Lappe was established in 1972 by approximately six couples. Since that time team membership has grown and changed dramatically. In addition we have accumulated an impressive equipment inventory and the training to effectively use it.In 1992 a First Response Team (FRT) was established from within the membership of the Fire Fighters. The role was to provide initial emergency medical treatment in our area. The team was started with the assistance of the Ministry of Health and over time grew to include members who were not firefighters. Along with the addition of the FRT came the change to a pager call-out system and more radios for team members.
Our vehicle for the Emergency First Response (EFR) was originally a restored bread truck which has now been replaced by a 4WD suburban. The team has access to all the standard EFR supplied equipment. Shelves have been added to the Suburban to keep the supplies organized and for safety purposes. The hall also has a relatively new training room which allows all training to take place on site. Previously EFR training sessions were held in the Gorham and Ware School Library.
Currently we serve a large area in Lappe and Gorham townships with consideration being extended to include a portion of more northern townships as well. Meetings are currently being scheduled with the Lappe Services Board to give further consideration to this request.
In regard to membership we've had a high of 16 trained members but with turnover in our team we are currently at 7 active members. We have 6 additonal members awaiting the training as soon as it becomes available. All firefighters are trained in First Aid and CPR.
New members are always welcome for either the First Response Team or the Fire Team--training provided.
