East Gorham First Response Team
In 1998 the East Gorham First Response Team was founded by four volunteers and became an important asset to the East Gorham Fire Department. First Responders are fully trained in First Aid, CPR, and the use of specific lifesaving equipment. With the addition of First Response, East Gorham was able to join the Central Ambulance Communication Centre and relieve the burden of fire phone volunteers. Because we live in the community, we are often able to respond more quickly to local emergencies and begin basic life support for your family and neighbours, until Advanced Life Support Paramedics arrive from the city. Team members are volunteers and are on call 24 hours a day. The team responds to medical emergencies and accidents in residential and commercial settings, to remote homes and to trailer parks, to roadsides, gravel pits, and lakes. The East Gorham First Response Team primarily serves an area that starts in the south at the city limits, in the east at Copenhagen Road, goes north to Pike Lake and to Old Hilldale Road in the west. In a unique set of circumstances, two completely autonomous teams, (East Gorham and Lappe) are paged out on the same tone. In the event that Lappe is unable to respond, the East Gorham Team attends calls in that area as well.Currently there are nine fully trained and active team members. If you are interested in training as a first response volunteer, please call Pat Williams at 683-5665.
